This could quite possibly be the most eloquent posting of your blog, bkopec. That quasi-word/sound of frustration echoes fans sentiments across baseball. Has there ever been a commish that was more concerned with himself than the game? Why not Bob Costas? Or Mike Greenberg/Jayson Stark/Pete Gammons? For chrissakes, I'd even welcome William Jefferson Clinton as commish!
Let's review Bud's accomplishments: ~Strike after one of the greatest all star games in history (and that's just not my pittsburgh bias) causing a decrease in interest only to be resurged by Mcgwire/Sosa and then Bonds - lucky bud...lucky. ~Insolvency ~Expos - still a joke ~Declaring a tie in a baseball game setting a horrible precedent ~Taking away from one of the greatest world series in history to announce the following day that he was considering contraction. Doesn't this guy have PR people to tell him not to pull these shenanigans? ~Basically coming to power unscrupulously and being a puppet for the owners
I'm sure there's much much more...but I will throw him a bone. As much as I hated the WildCard when it started and was not thrilled with Bud, I do like it now but he should stop where he's at. This talk of adding another wild card is crazy. no way.
Not sure if anyone can relate, but "Proud to be your" Bud reminds me of the hot shot manager in an office who comes in and wants to revamp and reorganize everything - not because it's broke but because he wants to make it better his/her way. then a few months later, your worse off and end up having to go back to your old ways and the manager just says that no one bought into the process or nurtured the change. bud has a lot of issues and the owners should wake up and vote a commish in who will do what's right for baseball not what's right for the owners.
