Playing hookey
It's pretty much
official...Bush never fulfilled his commitment to the National Guard. (Stay tuned to CBS for their interview of Ben Barnes tonight at 8pm.) Of course, this revelation will undoubtedly spark a best-selling book, several prime time television appearances, and hours and hours of radio talk devoted to the reasons America is under attack from within by the lying, conniving forces of GWB. Actually, it probably won't get more than a byline or two in the local papers and maybe a mention on a blog that nobody reads. That's because the media is so damned
liberal conservative.
Regardless, does it really matter that Bush did what hundreds of other rich, priviledged kids did back in the sixties? (ie. get out of the draft by volunteering for the National Guard, then skirting that same National Guard duty when it became inconvenient.) We should be talking about 1,000+ Americans dead in a needless foreign war, over a million net jobs lost, and perhaps most importantly, losing our moral authority in the world.

Although you said "pretty much official" of course, there is another side to the issue...

There is no doubt that we should focus on the issues of today, but since Kerry has basically made his Viet Nam "heroism" his entire campaign platform, we will continue to be inundated with info from both candidates' past military accounts. That damn media, liberal or conservative...
No doubt there have been some serious doubts cast on these documents. If they are forgeries, why hasn't the GWB team come out and denounced them yet? Why did the White House release them in the first place? Remember that these documents came from the White House after they were sued under the Freedom of Information Act. I suspect that even if the documents are forgeries (and that's a very real possibility, maybe even probability), that the underlying story they tell is true.
One more example of how the press (in this case CBS) is more concerned with entertainment than news. I can't wait to see how this will play out. I hope the other networks have learned a lesson, but I know they haven't.
