#1 draft picks
From now on, everytime I blame the Pirates' run of losing on their meager payroll, remind me that in a span of 4 months, they traded 3 former #1 picks for Mark Redman, Arthur Rhodes, Ty Wigginton, and a few middling prospects.
1. Lack of player development
2. Poor Drafting
3. Bad Contracts
4. Lack of Money
That's the order in which I'd rate the causes of the Pirates ills.
Enough looking backward. It's a new era in Pittsburgh - the Oliver Perez era.
