Excellent piece on the awesome power that is Scott Boras over at

Since the Pirates are a small market team, the Pirates are rarely directly impacted by the Boras effect. However, the escalation of salaries certainly filters down eventually.
In any event, Bucco backers better get familiar with Boras' tricks as Oliver Perez is a client.

My favorite quote about Scott Boras was written a few weeks ago during the Jason Varitek negotiations. Boras, as we remember, said he had another team interested in Varitek at $55 mil for 5 years, which turned out to be a blatant lie.
The quote was "Boras is the type of agent who always checks between the sofa cushions for loose change before he leaves the negotiating room."
